Supporting under-resourced whānau with the skills and essentials to confidently care for their babies, while reducing the amount of goods sent to landfill.
Who We Are
PIPS is a registered charity supporting babies and whānau across Ōtautahi Christchurch.
We believe every baby deserves a safe, warm and nurturing start — and that support should be shaped around what each family needs to get there. For some, that means access to the basics: a safe bed, warm clothing, or suitable transport. For too many, these essentials are out of reach.
Our drop-in centre is open to anyone who is pregnant or caring for a baby — parents, grandparents, foster carers and wider whānau. No referral is needed, though many people are connected to us through midwives, social workers, hospital staff, GPs and other support services. We are independent and non-judgemental, walking alongside each whānau as they make the decisions that are right for them.
Within our space, families are welcomed into a setting that feels like a baby store, where they can choose what they need in a way that upholds dignity, respects their choices, and honours their lived experience. All of our services are provided at no cost, removing barriers and ensuring whānau can access the support they need. Alongside this, we provide essential baby items and practical support tailored to each whānau, as well as programmes and opportunities for connection during pregnancy and early parenting.
Our space is welcoming and inclusive — a place where people feel seen, supported, and not alone.
We also care deeply about the world our children will grow up in. By repairing, reusing and rehoming quality baby items, we keep good things in circulation and reduce what ends up in landfill — supporting both whānau and the environment.
Through connection, practical support, and a strong sense of community, we help create brighter beginnings. Because no baby should go without, and no parent should carry the weight of not being able to provide on their own. With your support, we can continue to walk alongside whānau and ensure every pēpi has what they need for a safe and supported start – please donate today.
Who We Help
Pregnancy and parenting in the early years can be an overwhelming time — especially without strong support systems. The families we support come from many walks of life, each facing unique challenges. Some are navigating extreme financial hardship or housing insecurity. Others are fleeing family violence, separated from whānau overseas, or simply feeling isolated and unsure. Many have limited access to support, information, or basic resources. Some just need a safe space to connect, share their experiences, and build confidence alongside others.
At PIPS, we meet families where they’re at — offering practical help and a listening ear in a community that understands.
Our Impact (so far this year)
"The PIPS team are so helpful, understanding and really kind. They made such a difference to us and I have recommended so many people who need help to get in touch with them."
“The kindness I found at PIPS helped me through the darkest part of my parenting journey. It’s not just the practical support — it’s the way they believe in you when you’ve forgotten how to believe in yourself.”
"It may have only been a small part of your day but it made a massive difference to my confidence, mindset and pregnancy. PIPS has been by far the biggest support throughout my journey to motherhood."
"My favourite part of volunteering at PIPS is knowing that children and babies are going home safely in their cars."
"PIPS has given me real-life experience beyond my study, to deeply understand how support and kindness can make the world of difference."
PIPS is a treasure. I love how welcoming, non-judgmental and thoughtful they are. They've been our rock, helping us with clothing, a capsule, carseat, highchair and more. PIPS lightened the financial and emotional load for us. If you're reading this in need of some help as a mum or dad of a little one, they are the village you're looking for. You need only ask.
